On Saturday, November 23rd, the Coalition hosted our very first Stuff the Pantry Celebration. We are thrilled to report that the event was extremely successful, and we exceeded our goal of collecting 2000 items, collecting nearly 4000 non-perishable food and essential items! You can read about the experiences of our event volunteers and the significance of the pantry collection in Newsday. Check out our pictures, including our fall-inspired photo booth!
Nearly 4,000 donated items is an amazing result, especially for a first-time pantry event! Last fall, I helped organize a neighborhood food drive, and the trickiest part was finding enough boxes and shelves to sort everything. We posted a request for donated storage supplies on Craigslist, and I ended up searching craigslist customer service contacts after having trouble updating our listing. A local family brought over sturdy bins the next morning, which made packing much easier. Seeing volunteers, neighbors, and businesses come together like this always reminds me how much a community can accomplish with a little coordination and kindness.
