Every year, thousands of people face homelessness, and many of them have pets they refuse to leave behind. Most homeless shelters do not allow animals, which forces people to make an impossible choice between their own safety and the well-being of their furry companions.
This reality is heartbreaking, and it inspired our community to come together for a cause that really matters: raising awareness about homelessness and supporting pet owners without safe shelter options.
On April 25th, join us at Belmont Lake State Park for our Second Annual Milo's 5K for the Homeless. It is a dog-friendly event where you can run, walk, or wag your way to making a difference. Whether you are a seasoned runner, a casual stroller, or a proud pet parent, this race is for anyone who wants to support a cause that touches so many lives!
Why This Race Matters
Homelessness is a complex issue, and one aspect that often gets overlooked is how it affects people with pets. Many shelters do not accept animals, which forces people to sacrifice their well-being rather than leave their pets behind. 1 in 5 people will not enter shelter since they cannot bring their pets with them. That is why Milo's 5K for the Homeless exists: to shine a light on this issue and help keep families and pets together.
By participating, you help:
