On April 26th at Belmont Lake State Park, LICH supporters braved the rain and wind for our first annual 5K...Milo’s Run for the Homeless! Together, we ran and walked with purpose, raising awareness and support for Long Islanders experiencing homelessness.
The race, which was dog-friendly, shined a light on something most Long Islanders can relate to: loving their pets.
Did you know for many homeless people, the choice to move into housing means giving up a beloved pet? People experiencing homelessness often choose to continue living unsheltered with their pet(s) instead of abandoning them to move into an emergency shelter. We know that pets are important to their owner’s wellbeing and the race brought awareness to the struggle many homeless Long Islanders face.
Over 160 people registered for the race, and 30+ volunteers came to help on race day. A HUGE shout out to TJ Fazio, an incredible artist who made Milo into a beautiful cartoon design! Our heartfelt thanks to our AMAZING 5K Planning Committee, and to all of our incredible sponsors, vendors, volunteers and elitefeats for making this day possible!
