HELP ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS

People experiencing homelessness on Long Island are particularly vulnerable to: higher rates of chronic health conditions, access to health care and support services, falling below the poverty line, and having the inability to self-quarantine. This is a complex issue that requires evidence-based approaches and creative-systemic solutions. Please continue to support Long Island Coalition for the Homeless as your contribution enables our team and collaborative partners to help those most vulnerable and reduce the rate of homelessness on Long Island.

Please help us:

  • Help the thousands of homeless children on LI  move to a place they can call home and out of a shelter

  • Support the Amityville Resource Center as a one-stop for services to Veterans and other vulnerable populations

  • Help Us Connect Anyone Living on the Street with vital resources

IN-KIND DONATIONS

Personal expenses can be difficult to manage when you cannot afford the most basic necessities. People who come to our Boutique can access clothing, business attire for job interviews and employment, toiletries and other essential items for free. Children are given the tools needed to succeed in school. The essential items and clothing we distribute help families save money to sustaining housing, obtain employment, provide for their children and have a more positive outlook on their future.

In 2016, volunteers collected over 1,500 pounds of food, baby supplies, toiletries, clothing, housewares and other essential items, and almost 4,000 backpacks filled with school supplies. Our distribution aim improve the lives of our neighbors-in-need with empowerment, dignity and respect. In-kind donations from community members and businesses make it possible for us to provide basic essentials to 10,000 people a year.

TAX
INFORMATION
According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a taxpayer can deduct the fair market value of clothing, household goods, used furniture, shoes, books and so forth. Fair market value is the price a willing buyer would pay for them. Value usually depends on the condition of the item. By law, a charity cannot tell you what your donated items are worth. This is something you must do yourself.

To assess "fair market value" for your donations consult your tax advisor and review the IRS guidelines.
