Backpack Pirates is an annual event where over 425 homeless and at-risk children are invited to spend a day at summer camp. Activities include sports, field games, arts and crafts, treasure hunts, a theater show, swimming at the beach, archery, DJ and dancing, and much more. Please join as a camp counselor, athlete, artist, ocean certified lifeguard, timekeepers, set up and clean up help, and even more importantly- a friend, teammate, and part of amazing memories.
Each year the Coalition brings together professionals from all of Long Island and NY State to educate each other about current issues facing the homeless. CEU Credits are available for those interested in the workshops. Previous year themes include youth & family homelessness, housing first, serving veterans, and much more!
Each January, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless coordinates point-in-time counts of sheltered and unsheltered homeless men, women and children in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
