What are you the most passionate about in regards to ending homelessness?

I feel that no individual should have to feel like they have no place to go and receive support and advocacy. No individual should have to live in a shelter or on the street for a prolonged amount of time. I work hard to be able to link individuals experiencing homelessness to the right types of services that best fit their needs, while also addressing that individual’s protective factors that will help them succeed in exiting homelessness. Further, it is important to empower each individual’s right to self-determination.

My greatest accomplishment has been becoming the first in my family to graduate college and being one of the highest ranked academically in my class while doing so. I take great pride in my education and the performance shown within the classroom. The most memorable accolade for me was being inducted into the Psi- chi honor society of psychology simply because that is my field.
What are you the most passionate about in regards, to ending homelessness?
-
The aspect that intrigues me the most about ending homelessness, is obtaining equal opportunity for all no matter their race, socioeconomic status, migratory status and so forth. We all deserve to have a roof over our heads regardless of the cost of living, it should not be of great difficulty to live a normal life that we all deserve. So often we see areas that are gentrified, and housing being prioritized for the biggest bidder and it is infuriating to think that the efforts of an average worker goes unnoticed. Their pay at times isn’t enough to get a home because they are asked for things such as credit scores. These components of financial literacy are not taught to us all and in assuming such things but others at a disadvantage. That is only one of the many examples of unequal opportunities housing presents.

Long Term Goals:
-
My long-term goal is to gain relative experience in social work and psychology to apply for doctoral programs of clinical psychology. The field is very competitive, and all relative experience could further increase my candidacy profile. Ultimately, when that is completed, I aspire to have my own private practice and work with all populations but primarily those that suffer from substance abuse disorder and alcoholism. LICH is a great opportunity for me to encounter people with such issues while also introducing me to some of the common stressors that homeless people experience. It will further enhance my ability to communicate and relate with others, which

-
I am most passionate about being in a pivotal role in preventing experiences of homelessness, providing critical informative-based supports to individuals during experiences of homelessness, and equipping people to exit homelessness to stable, affordable housing. I want to make sure I build the strongest possible partnerships between our homelessness services and options leveraging every available resource – public and private; federal, state, and local; targeted and non-targeted assistance – to its fullest to serve the underserved community experiencing homelessness and support their educational successes. I want to be a change agent to put a stopper in the pipeline to prison.
