Education:

  • Bachelors, Communication Arts (Television Production & Journalism)

3 Values:

  • Education; Integrity; Person-Centered Care

Greatest Accomplishment:

  • While working in the Supported Employment field I developed a comprehensive Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation (DVE) curriculum used to assess the strengths of individuals with developmental disabilities prior to enrolling them in a variety vocational training programs.  This curriculum was instrumental in assisting over 100 individuals to secure employment services leading to ongoing employment opportunities over a two-year period.

  • As a volunteer and internship coordinator I was instrumental in the adoption and implementation of software used to increase and improve volunteer and internship opportunities and experiences throughout the third largest non-profit serving people with developmental disabilities in the state of New York.  This software is used to this day and has been linked to fundraising and community awareness efforts as well.

What are you the most passionate about in regards to ending homelessness?

  • Educating the community as well as other service providers about the reality of homelessness and how to end it.

Other jobs/Community Work/Affiliations:

  • I worked for 15 years in multiple roles supporting people with a variety of developmental and intellectual disabilities.  These roles included, direct support professional, community habilitation worker, employment training specialist, employment services supervisor, employment services facilitator and volunteer/internship coordinator.

  • I spent over a decade working with the Special Olympics, coaching Softball and Track & Field as well as assisting with fundraisers and other awareness campaigns.  I also assisted in the development of an integrated sports club (The Starz) where disabled and non-disabled athletes can participate in sports such as softball, basketball, track & field, bowling, bocce ball and downhill skiing together as equals.

  • During my time as a volunteer/intern coordinator I assisted with the development, planning and operation of multiple agency wide events including a staff recognition day, an annual walk fundraiser, a volunteer recognition dinner and a membership luncheon and fashion show.

Medium Term Goals:

  • I’d like to get back into shape so I can begin participating in 5K and obstacle course races as well as being a better role model for the many athletes with disabilities that I work with due to my affiliation with Special Olympics and The Starz.  I would also like to start a podcast with several friends where we talk about our experiences living in very different parts of the country

Long Term Goals:

  •  I would like to some day write and publish a series of young adult novels as well as collections of short stories and poetry.
