Supply our Students Drive
& Backpack Pirates Summer Festival
The Martella Family along with the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, Long Island Cares, and County Executive Steve Bellone are asking for your help to provide school supplies for children across Long Island that are unable to afford them. Scott Martella had hopes of running a school supply drive, but was unable to complete that dream due to his sudden passing in August 2016. Scott always believed education was very important, and to help every child to be successful, he believed they needed the tools to start the school year off right.
With your generosity, we are hoping we can make that happen. This year, we have started a webpage where supplies and fully equipped backpacks are easy to purchase: www.yougivegoods.com/scottmartella. The website makes it easy with just a click of a button, and the link can be shared through e-mail, social media, etc. All donors purchasing through this website will receive a tax deductible receipt.
In addition, we will have boxes available throughout the County for those who would like to drop off supplies. Please help us help others while honoring Scott Martella in the process. We are grateful to everybody for their help; it means more then words can express.
Backpack Pirates is an annual event where over 425 homeless and at-risk children will be invited to spend a day at a summer camp, packed with as many fun games and activities as possible.
Activities include: Sports, field games, arts and crafts, treasure hunts, a theater show, swimming at the beach, archery, DJ and dancing, and much more.
Please join as a camp counselor, athlete, artist, ocean certified lifeguard, time keepers, set up and clean up help, and even more importantly- a friend, teammate and part of an amazing memory.
Back Pack Pirates Summer Festival 2016
"The need for assistance is growing each year. We are grateful to the Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation for their support and to other members of our community who come together to help our less fortunate neighbors. These school supplies will help thousands of children go back to school with the tools they need to succeed.” -- Greta Guarton, Executive Director of LICH
“Many of the children have never been to the beach or had new clothes or supplies for school. Thanks to our partners in the community, Backpack Pirates and LICH, these kids will start the school year more prepared and more confident than they have before,” --Charles Russo, Chair of LICH and co-organizer of the Summer Festival
